New Future Teachers website and Facebook page

Hi, and welcome to the first edition of the student teacher newsletter called Future Teachers. The e-newsletter that will go out four times a year with stories and events we think will be of interest to those studying to become teachers in the NSW public school system.

Federation has launched a new website and Facebook page aimed at student teacher members of the union. Called, ‘Future Teachers’ it aims to provide advice and support to our student members and help those new teachers who are just at the beginning of their career.

The website can be found at and the Facebook page at

Making the transition from student teacher to a practising teacher is not easy and we know there is a high attrition rate in the first few years. This website and Facebook page also backs up the work we already do in universities around the state with student teachers.

The site provides advice on practicum and in-school experience which is such an important component of any Teacher Education course. There is practical advice on lesson preparation and legal issues that may affect student teachers on in-school placement.

We have put together an expert panel of experienced teachers to provide advice, support and general information about being a teacher in the NSW public education system. We want to mentor the next generation of teachers and potential activists to our union.

The site also has important links to the wider group of teacher services such as Teachers Federation Health, Teachers Mutual Bank, First State Super, and the Federation’s Centre for Professional Learning (CPL) and Trade Union Training program (TUT).

We encourage student teacher members to spread the word about the Future Teachers website and Facebook page and join the Federation.

We hope you like the site. Please give us feedback and suggestions about how we can make it better and a more useful resource for you while you study to become a teacher.

this resource needs to be advertised more widely to the university students, I only found this site because I was applying for a scholarship.

Hi Bridy

Thanks for your feedback. We will certainly be promoting this website as widely as we can but, like most things, word of mouth is often the best promotion. Please let you anyone you know who may be interested about the website. I hope your studies are going well.

Cheers, Kate
